BERSERK: MY NEVER
ENDING QUEST TO MAKE
EVERYONE READ AND WATCH BERSERK

INTRO

For those of you who have seen the anime, you know that the ending leaves just the tinniest little cliffhanger. For those of you who haven't seen the anime, well, think of the word cliffhanger, multiply that by infinity, take it to the depths of forever, and you will still have barely a glimpse of what I am talking about.

BACKGROUND

The anime covers volume 1 and 4 through about 13, skipping 2 and 3. It also leaves out a main character. I don't know why, it just does. The manga is also much more...... hardcore than the anime. I don't mean porno hardcore, I mean intense, awesome, cool, violent, enthralling, kickass hardcore!

If you haven't seen the anime but think you might, watch it before you read the manga. The anime is awesome, but the manga is better. Also, since the anime doesn't cover the whole story, it's better to watch it first and then get everything you missed with the manga. When I read the manga, I remember the characters’ voices and the music. It’s just better to watch the anime first, trust me.

Berserk started in 1990 and it's been going strong ever since. It's up to volume 37 now. The anime was done in 1997, but it was quite violent so it was on late and didn’t get a lot of viewers, which I believe is why it wasn’t continued. But those who watch it all become hardcore fans. However, there is a new anime production of Berserk. It's starting at the beginning again, but it's supposedly an effort to adapt the entire series.

STORY

What is Berserk about? Well, it’s hard to say. The setting is Europe in the dark ages. You know, horses, armor, swords, castles, kings, nobles, knights, war, religion, hate, witchcraft, duty, comrades in arms, betrayal, revenge, evil, demons and magic (very sparse until after the anime in the timeline). The story takes place over decades. It is epic.

I don’t really want to say too much about the characters. The story is so excellent and unpredictable, I’d prefer everyone to see it with a blank slate to enjoy it to the fullest.

Here's another AMV by Sir Lagsalot. It's just as amazing. If you have a good stereo or headphones, then crank em up because this music sounds best when it's loud. Also, if you have not seen the anime yet (which I again encourage you to do before reading the manga), then I suggest that you do not watch this video more than a few times. It has spoilers in it, however they are so quick and out of context that I really doubt they will hurt your viewing of the anime in any way, as long as you don't watch the video again and again, memorizing everything.

Here's another great AMV. This one by Hakura is beautifully composed and well edited. But be warned, this video has stronger spoilers in it than the last one, so the same viewing rules apply, but you really better follow them! In fact, if you've already decided that you're gonna watch the anime anyway, then just skip this video for now. But if you're still not sure and need more examples of just how awesome Berserk is, then go ahead and watch.

Pho, you know my stance on anime and the like but I have to admit that this Beserk stuff is pretty darned cool. Fantastic job on this thread, setting it up for easy access for anime newbs like myself. I'll check out more of this Beserk stuff just because of the work you did and how you displayed it.

There.... I read something written by Toria. It's full of ignorant generalizations, just as I'd expect. I put a lot of work into this thread, you could be a little nicer you know! >.<

So what's your problem with anime? What have you even seen of anime? Stupid shit with dumb ass stories like Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z? Whenever I find someone who doesn't like anime, that's always their story. They've been exposed to the same garbage most people in the US have been exposed to, and have been biased against anime because of it. Then there are the other people who equate anime to American cartoons, which is just as bad. It's not Japan's fault that corporations like Disney have embedded in everyone's mind that animated=for-kids-only. Bah!

I've seen plenty of anime/manga. I do infact enjoy alot of it, Ninja scroll, Fotns, and so on... i've just realised by now that i don't have the interest in it to sit there and watch/read episode after episode after issue of anime/manga. I'm just not into it enough to give a shit... Berserk is kinda cool looking... just not cool looking enough for me to warrant putting that much time into it to read it all.

The thread is actually pretty awesome... lots of work and it's pretty good... just the content isn't something i'm into. Sorry i don't share your tastes of nazi of the forums

Okay Toria, that's cool. It's just that your initial response of "It's Anime just like i thought" made me think you thought it sucked just for that reason. As for what you said in your second post, I don't know. I guess from my perspective I see so much more in it. The story is amazing and the manga art is excellent. The animation, however, was a little on the cheap side. When I say that, I mean the actual animation, not the voice work or the editing or the design. I simply mean they saved as much money as they could on the frames of animation. It's still very good though.

The anime is actually only 25 episodes, so it really wouldn't take that long to watch. I'd just hate someone to miss out on this story simply because they thought it'd be too time consuming. That's especially hard to take from someone who plays MMO's all the time. You telling me you have no free time? LOL!
